Can you imagine a world where everyone is treated fairly and equally, regardless of race, religion, gender, or social status? A world where everyone has equal opportunities to succeed and the right to live. This is the world that the Quran envisions. The Quran is the book of justice and equality, and it says that everyone is equal and has the right to live with dignity and respect. In this article, we will explore justice and equality in the Quran with different examples and Quranic verses, so keep reading.

Justice in Quran

A gavel and a Holy Quran showing the Justice

Justice is the central pillar of Islam, and Allah emphasizes justice throughout the Quran. The Quran defines justice as giving everyone what is due to them and mentions justice as an essential affair for the state's prosperity.

This noble book guides us in every situation about justice. The Quran says you should be fair in dealing with others, even if you dislike them. Allah says in the Quran:

"O you who believe! Stand out firmly for justice as witnesses to Allah, even though it be against yourselves, or your parents, or your kin, be the rich or poor, for Allah is their Guardian and theirs. Follow not the lusts (of your hearts), lest you swerve, and if you distort or decline to do justice, verily Allah is well-acquainted with all that you do." (Quran 4:135)

The Quran also teaches us to do justice in our business dealings.

"And give full measure when you measure, and weigh with a straight balance. That is just, and better for the outcome." (Quran 17:35)

The Quran also guides us on how to do justice to criminals.

"And those who commit theft or highway robbery cut off their hands (from the wrist joint) as a punishment for their crime and a deterrent from Allah. And Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise." (Quran 5:38)

The Quran also teaches us how to do justice to non-Muslims

"Allah forbids you not to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity." (Quran 60:8)

This is how much the Quran values justice, and the Quran addresses every aspect of life. The Quran teaches us to be fair and compassionate in all our dealings with others, regardless of race, religion, gender, or social status. Justice is essential for building a solid and prosperous society and is the key to peace and harmony. At the same time, forgiving people in Islam is a very beautiful deed that will help you get justice from Allah Almighty at the doomsday.

Equality in Quran

Equality is also a central principle of the Quran as justice and emphasized throughout the Quran. The Quran teaches us that people should not discriminate based on race, gender, and religion. Let me mention some Quranic verses to show how much the Quran emphasizes equality.

"O mankind! We have created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes where you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you with Allah is that (who is) the most righteous of you." (Quran 49:13)

Some hadiths show how vital equality is for the religion of Islam.

"There is no superiority of the white over the black, nor of the black over the white, except by piety." (Hadith)

"All Muslims are equal, like the teeth of a comb." (Hadith)

Example

Many examples are set by the prophets themselves to show their nation's equality. Let me mention one example here.

Once in a battle, the Prophet (PBUH) appointed Umaima bint Ruqayyah as the military leader. At that time, the woman was not treated well, and appointing a woman as the military leader was a very unusual incident. Still, the Prophet (PBUH) took this step to teach the Muslims gender equality.

How is equality shown in Islam?

In Islam, All people are equal in the eyes of Allah. Islam shows equality through the teaching and actions of the Prophet (PBUH) and its legal system.

What does Allah say about equality?

Allah teaches us in the Quran that all people are equal in His eyes and that righteousness makes one person more honorable than another.

Conclusion

The Quran gives a concept of a world where everybody can live a respectful life and have equal opportunities to thrive. Moreover, it is why justice and equality are the two basic rules that Islam mentions. The justice in the Quran is not that you are following the law but that you are doing fair and compassionate dealings with other people.

If we want to make this world a better place, we must follow the Quranic principles of Justice and Equality.
